Disaster Technical Assistance – USA

When hurricane Matthews struck the southeast, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) was unsure about how to support their Continuum of Cares (CoCs) Program, which is designed to promote community wide commitment to the goal of ending homelessness. Using geospatial analysis, I tracked the path of Hurricane Matthews to pinpoint which CoCs would be potentially impacted by the storm. Using this information, we supported the development of a systematic disaster outreach approach for HUD to identify high-risk homeless service providers in the hurricane path.   This mapping effort helped create a structured and coordinated effort to give the CoCs the support they need to assist their homeless communities.

I also am working with HUD data to try to understand how the data can be reworked and combined with other public data sources to create impactful products for disaster recovery efforts. This project requires brainstorming what “could be” and trying to create a new vision leveraging various data sources.
